College Recruiting Page
Hey Future College Athletes! Welcome to the Vasquez Academy Recruiting College Link – your go-to source for navigating the journey to playing sports in college. We’re constantly updating this page to bring you the most helpful info.
Let’s be real: landing a college spot and a scholarship isn’t just about showing up for your travel team and waiting for the phone to ring! It takes initiative. You need to start thinking about which colleges you’re interested in and where you realistically have a shot at playing – and you need to do it early.
Seriously, start thinking about colleges your freshman year! If you’re aiming for an Ivy League school, you should be thinking about the PSAT practically from day one. Division I schools often begin identifying potential freshmen in the summer after your freshman year (though they can’t actually talk to you until September of your junior year, so getting on their radar early through camps is key!). Division II and III schools tend to recruit a bit later, often in the summer before your senior year. But they still need to know who you are so they can come watch you play.
One of the best ways to get noticed by the colleges you’re interested in? College camps! Most schools offer camps throughout the year, starting with winter camps in December and January and continuing through the summer. Check out the athletics website of the colleges you’re interested in to find their camp schedules.
Before you start hitting the camp circuit, make sure you’ve done your homework! Identify the colleges that are a good fit for you both academically and athletically. Your SportsRecruits account’s Favorites List can be a great way to keep track of this. And definitely make sure you have a complete player profile with recent video footage for coaches to see. You can find some helpful recruiting info at www.vasquezacademy.org/samples/
Once you have your list of schools and your profile is ready, it’s time to start going to camps and reaching out to coaches via email. Remember, you can email college coaches at any point during your high school career – the early recruiting rules only apply to what the college coaches can do, not you!
Got questions? Your high school coach or your team’s recruiting coordinator are your best resources – don’t hesitate to ask them for guidance!
